ACHS Host Veterans Day Program

Veterans Day Program National AnthemAmelia County High School and VFW Post 8759 hosted a Veterans Day Program in honor of local veterans on Tuesday, November 11.  High School Principal, Mrs. Parcilla Salley opened by welcoming and thanking all of the veterans and families in attendance. Also opening, ACHS students, Ashton Gough and Tatum Elliott led The Pledge of Allegiance. After the pledge, members of the ACHS Chamber Ensemble, Girls Ensemble, Concert Choir with members of the ACMS Intermediate Advanced Chorus presented the Star-Spangled Banner (Robinson) directed by chorus teacher, Mrs. Linda Litten.  Next the ACHS Band, played Armed Forces on Parade (Sweeny), conducted by band director Ms. Sarah Klinger. Following the musical, Mr. Allan Law, Commander VFW Post 8759 introduced the Guest Speaker, Lieutenant Colonel Michael Whitaker, USAF (Retired) Chaplain VFW Amelia Post 8759. Lt. Col. Whitaker spoke of his service in the USAF, the long history of veterans from Amelia, and the importance of our freedom.  Later the ACMS Beginning Chorus presented Fifty States in Rhyme (Berg) followed by the ACHS Band in Triumph of Man (Tatgenhorst). Also during the program, a commendation was given for the Voice of Democracy Essay Contest winners. In closing, the high school chamber ensemble sang Soldier (Brymer) and ACHS Assistant Principal, Mr. Steve Hudson thanked the veterans for their service and invited veterans and family members to an informal reception in the library.
