Public Notice: School Board Meeting Is Tuesday, April 14th

The Amelia County School Board will hold its Regular April Meeting according to Code of Virginia 2.2-3707, on Tuesday, April 14, 2020, in the Auditorium at Amelia County High School – 8500 Otterburn Road – Amelia, Virginia. Closed Session will be held at 12:00 noon at the high school. Open Session will immediately follow Closed Session.

To keep in compliance with Governor Northam’s guidelines for social distancing, we encourage the community to email their public comments, if any, to the Clerk of the Board at jonesv@ameliaschools.com. There will be limit of ten (10) people in the meeting at all times. ACPS will provide temporary streaming of the meeting.

Important School Closing Message From Superintendent, Dr. Lori Harper

Dear Amelia County Public Schools (ACPS) Families,

On Monday, March 23, 2020, Governor Northam announced that all Virginia schools will be closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.  While there is no substitute for in-school learning time and support provided to students by classroom teachers, Amelia County Public Schools (ACPS) plans to do our best to advance student learning.  

During this closure, school divisions have been tasked with determining how learning will continue.  School divisions have the option to provide learning modules, virtual learning, summer programming, and/or changing next year’s school calendar.  ACPS will be providing multiple options for student learning, understanding that exposure to academic content during this time of closure will promote continued learning for our students.

School Learning Modules

Beginning Tuesday, April 14th, teachers will be available by email or telephone between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, to address student and parent questions about learning module materials.  Parents are requested to return completed Learning Modules and Student Chromebooks to each student’s school between May 11th and May 13th between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.  Please maintain all materials in the box provided with the student’s name on it. 

Materials Pickup

While Learning Module materials will not receive a letter grade, Module materials will be evaluated on a pass/fail basis for all K-12 students and will be used to determine the need for summer school or future remedial learning sessions.  Parents may pick up Learning Module boxes or materials from their student’s school via a drive-through loop at the front of each school on Tuesday, March 31st, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. or Wednesday, April 1st, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Meals Pickup - Important Update March 31st

Due to Governor Northam’s Executive Order 55 dated March 30, 2020, the following changes to our meal program are being implemented: -Please read the message link below.

Reminder: Starting Thursday April 2, meals will only be available via drive thru pickup. Also, there will be no meal pick-up during Amelia County Public Schools’
scheduled Spring Break, (April 6  - April 13). Meal pick-up at the elementary
school will resume on Thursday, April 16th.

Free Meals For Children 18 and Younger.

Amelia County Public Schools will provide FREE breakfast and lunch pickup for children ages 18 and younger during the mandatory school closing.  These meal pickups will consist of breakfast and lunch for two days. We have updated our meals registration form to reflect the recent changes so Please use the following updated form for more information and registration:

Once again, we realize that this extended school closing is extremely inconvenient for families but we believe it is necessary in the interest of public health and well-being. We continue to encourage families to review health and safety precautions recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and the Virginia Department of Health.

Dear Members of the ACPS Community,

Amelia County Public Schools has much to offer our students. Each of our schools takes a personalized approach to student learning. We also provide a variety of extra-curricular activities aimed at student interests and development of the whole person. Partnerships with parents and the community make this possible.

During the 2019-2020 school year, we will be developing the Amelia Profile of a Graduate, incorporating career exposure, career investigation, and work-based experiences into PK-12 education. Parents, business owners, and community members are encouraged to become part of this process. Working together we can provide the ultimate PK-12 experience for the students of Amelia County.
