ACMS Teachers Tracey Dixon and Patrice Jackson Receive Awards

Teachers Recognized as ACPS Technology Leaders at Regional Banquet

Two Amelia County Middle School teachers were recognized for their technology integration practices at the 13th Annual Southside Virginia Regional Technology Consortium (SVRTC) Awards Banquet on March 21st at Longwood University.  Patrice Jackson received ACPS’ Technology Teacher Award for demonstrating effective uses of digital tools in the classroom. The Instructional Support Award for ACPS was given to Tracey Dixon for instructional innovation in advancing learning in a technology environment. The two were presented plagues, along with other teacher leaders from the 25 school districts in the southern Virginia region.


Jackson incorporates a variety of technology into her history lessons to increase engagement for her seventh grade students.  She is proficient in working with Google classroom, Class Dojo, Classroom Screen, and embedded videos. Her digital resources also include eMedia VA, Discovery Education and Quizizz. She shared tips on how to use Nearpod, one of her favorite interactive tools, during a school-based professional development day.  She is also the 7th Grade Team Leader.

Dixon is proficient in the use of Twitter, Prodigy, Mobymax, Web Page Design, Quizizz, Lucidpress, and Promethean Planet. She has led staff development workshops on Class Craft, Rocket Book and collaborated on Google Plus training.  She updates the ACMS Facebook page, serves as a “building buddy” for new teachers and is a Discovery Education Ambassador. Dixon is also among the first to join the ACPS Google Certification Cohort.  She teaches Pre-Algebra and Math 6 in the collaborative setting at ACMS. 

Other district staff attended the banquet in support of ACPS’ top technology leaders, including Dr. Harper, Superintendent, Dr. Reasoner, Director of Instruction and Human Resources, Dr. Medley, ACMS Principal, Sherry Pettis, Coordinator of Data, Testing and Accountability and Sylvia Hicks, Instructional Technologist.
