We would like to take a moment and wish all of our students, families, and staff a wonderful upcoming Winter Break. Tomorrow, Friday, December 20th is an early dismissal day. ACHS will dismiss at 12:30 P.M. ACMS will dismiss at 12:40 P.M. ACES will dismiss at 12:50 P.M. All schools and school offices will be closed from Monday, December 23rd through Friday, January 3rd. We hope you will take time to relax and rejuvenate during Winter Break and we look forward to welcoming our students and staff back to school on Monday, January 6, 2025. We would also like to inform you of a new School Board policy that will go into effect beginning January 1, 2025. The School Board approved Policy JICJ: Cell Phones and Electronic Devices during the December 9, 2024 School Board meeting. This policy is in compliance with Governor Youngkin's Executive Order "Establishing Cell Phone-Free Education in Virginia's K-12 Public Schools." Cell phones, smart watches, and personal electronic devices may not be used or worn by students in school buildings or on school grounds during the instructional day from the first bell to the closing bell. If a student brings a cell phone or personal electronic device to school, the item(s) must be turned off and stored fully out of sight during the instructional day. Students must use school-based communication tools to communicate with parents. Cell phones and personal electronic devices may be used before or after bell-to-bell instructional time on school buses as long as the use is compliant with the Code of Conduct. A copy of the full policy can be found by visiting Board Docs and is also attached to this message. https://go.boarddocs.com/vsba/amelia/Board.nsf/public# As always, thank you for your continued support of Amelia County Public Schools and enjoy your Winter Break!

Good evening Amelia families. This is Amelia County Public Schools with an important message regarding Monday, April 8, 2024. Upon the return of students from spring break, we are anticipating clear skies and nice weather for experiencing the anticipated solar eclipse between 2:00 P.M. and 4:30 P.M. on Monday afternoon. Teachers will present structured lessons on solar eclipse safety and will distribute solar glasses for students. We ask that parents take some time to discuss solar eclipse safety precautions with your students before they come to school on Monday. These precautions include avoiding looking directly at the sun, not using camera phones without a special filter to capture the solar eclipse, and wearing proper eye protection. We anticipate the peak of the solar eclipse to occur around bus dismissal time. Parents are reminded that you may choose to pick up your student early if you want to experience the solar eclipse as a family. We also encourage parents whose students will be riding a bus to be at the bus stop when students arrive in the afternoon. We hope all of our Team Amelia families are enjoying spring break and we look forward to the return of students on Monday. Have a nice evening!
